Reflections on WordCamp Asia 2024

WordCamp Asia 2024 recently unfolded its magic in Taipei, Taiwan, from March 7th to 9th, and what an extraordinary show it was! As the first flagship WordCamp in Asia, it brought together approximately 2,000 WordPress enthusiasts from 70+ countries at the Taipei International Convention Center. This edition marked the second innings of #WCAsia, following the first in Thailand in 2023.

Having previously been part of WordCamp Bhopal and WordCamp Mumbai in various capacities, I applied for the WordCamp Asia 2024 Diversity Scholarship and emceeing roles. To my delight, both applications were accepted, and I found myself on the brink of attending my first international event outside my home country and, of course, my first WordCamp Asia.

However, just before the event, life threw an unexpected curveball my way. An unfortunate accident meant I couldn’t be physically present at WordCamp Asia 2024. It was a moment of profound disappointment as I had geared up to be part of this global WordPress celebration. Despite my absence, I remained connected to the event’s pulse, eagerly soaking in updates and experiences shared by attendees & organizers. Social Media was buzzing with excitement & thrill!

As the sole international recipient of the WordCamp Asia 2024 Diversity Scholarship, I was generously offered sponsorship for my travel expenses, accommodation in Taipei, and the event ticket. This scholarship not only recognized the diversity I brought to the WordPress community but also was a gesture that resonated with the inclusive spirit of WordCamps.

As WordCamp Asia 2025 is slated to take place in Manila, Philippines, I find myself hopeful and determined to be part of the next chapter. The missed opportunity in Taipei only fueled my desire to embrace the WordPress community on an international stage. The enthusiasm, knowledge sharing, and connections fostered at WordCamps are unparalleled, and I look forward to experiencing it firsthand.

WordCamp Asia 2024 may not have been in the cards for me physically, but the journey was nonetheless significant. The WordPress community’s support, even in moments of setback, reinforces the true essence of these events. As I reflect on this missed adventure, I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and eagerly anticipate the next chapter in the WordCamp saga.
