Navigating privacy & data protection at GCCD Bhopal 2024

Recently, the GDG (Google Developers Group) Cloud Bhopal organized its flagship event, Cloud Community Days 2024, in Bhopal. This marked the third consecutive edition of the event, and I’ve had the privilege of being a part of each one—first as an attendee, then as a volunteer, and now, as a speaker! Looking back at this journey, it’s been quite an enriching and fulfilling experience.

Stepping into the Speaker Role

This year, I had the opportunity to speak on a subject I’m deeply interested in—privacy and data protection, specifically aligning with the Digital India mission. As someone who’s always been eager to bridge the worlds of law and technology, this event presented a perfect platform to explore these synergies.

The event, held at LNCT University, saw a meaningful conversation unfold, and I was thrilled to contribute my part to it. My session focused on the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, a crucial law that impacts individuals and entities working in the cloud or providing related services. Yet, despite its importance, I’ve noticed that much of the information about the acts & policies remains underrepresented, especially among stakeholders in the tech community.

Sharing Knowledge and Building Connections

One thing that always fascinated me, even as a child, was how some people just seemed to know so much about different topics. Now, as an adult, I still find myself intrigued by how informed and updated everyone around me seems to be.

This time, however, something changed. I found myself on the other side of that dynamic—sharing knowledge rather than absorbing it. It was humbling to realize that my insights could actually add value to someone else’s understanding. I noticed a common thread—many people are genuinely curious and want to learn, but they often don’t have access to the right information, even if it directly affects them.

That’s what makes opportunities like this so important. Speaking at Cloud Community Days allowed me to bridge that gap and help others gain a clearer understanding of the laws that could shape their professional lives.

Tech and Sustainability Go Hand-in-Hand

What makes Cloud Community Days even more special is its focus on sustainability. This year, the event embraced eco-friendly practices, and as a token of gratitude, the organizers gifted me a thoughtful jute pouch containing seed balls, along with a shield. The emphasis on sustainability aligns perfectly with the event’s mission of driving positive change—not just in tech, but in the way we interact with the environment.

A Stellar Lineup of Speakers

It was an absolute honor to share the stage with such a remarkable lineup of speakers, many of whom are Google Developer Experts (GDEs):

  • Ankit Sharma shared his expertise in building modern web apps with Angular & Firebase, providing valuable insights into streamlining app development while providing practical examples.
  • Ashok Vishwakarma gave an excellent session on Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) with Gemma, explaining the integration of LLMs in practical settings.
  • Arjun Vijayvargiya wowed the audience with his talk on Gemini Code Assist, showcasing the evolution of technology in simplifying coding processes.
  • Ashutosh Bhakare took a deep dive into Google Kubernetes Engine, offering a comprehensive overview of cloud-native solutions.

Each speaker brought their unique perspective, highlighting the rapid advancements happening in the tech space. Being a no-dev, non-tech individual, most of this was new to me, but I think I’ve started embracing this newness it brings.

Looking Ahead

None of this would have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the event organizers. A heartfelt thank you to Mayur Rathi and Aditya Shah for their unwavering support and for giving me this wonderful opportunity.

Cloud Community Days is the flagship event of GDG Cloud, and I’m beyond thrilled to congratulate the entire team on another successful edition.

It’s always a responsibility to share thoughts on stage, but it’s a responsibility that comes with a great sense of fulfilment. I’m excited to see how this journey unfolds further and how I can continue contributing to the intersections of law, technology, and policy. The power of community indeed knows no bounds.
